El aporte del sector cooperativo de colombiano, cuyo valor agregado representó 0.84 % del PIB en 2003 y cuenta con presencia en 617 municipios de Colombia, sobrepasa el ámbito económico. Este sector apoya la creación y conformación del capital social nacional y además ayuda a compensar fallas de ciertos mercados, como el financiero. Adicionalmente, las cooperativas tienen impacto tanto en el ámbito micro de la comunidad en donde desarrolla sus actividades, cómo en el ámbito macro al aportar al desarrollo económico y social de Colombia. <br/>El presente estudios analiza los anteriores aspectos con base en la información disponible. En particular, el trabajo dimensiona el aporte económico y social del cooperativismo, identifica las determinantes del sector y analiza los aspectos que construyen sus fortalezas y debilidades. |
